Quantum-Touch

Quantum-Touch, a form of energy healing similar to reiki, aims to bring the body’s energy into an optimal state through the use of a system of meditations and patterned breathing. This approach can be combined with other massage techniques or used on its own. Some massage practitioners use this approach when a client’s body is too injured to tolerate a massage.

What Is Quantum-Touch?

This approach to bodywork was pioneered by Richard Gordon, who was initially skeptical of spirituality in general and healing in particular. But a visit to faith healer Harold Plume convinced him of the value of energy healing, and he went on to study natural healing in New Mexico in the 1970s. One of his classes at the Christos School introduced him to polarity therapy, a type of energy healing, and this informed a number of his later explorations in the field. Gordon eventually developed Quantum-Touch as a way of manipulating the body’s life force into a state of balance, working from the belief that a person’s thoughts can affect their physical reality.

Quantum-Touch practitioners work to create a high level of trust with their clients. This trust helps enable them to tap into a client’s energy and address their needs in a safe and supportive environment. By moving their hands just above a client’s body, practitioners work to address energetic imbalances and restore harmony, thereby reducing emotional and psychological pain.

A series of techniques taught in Quantum-Touch training helps practitioners increase their own energetic vibrations. This energetic increase, which uses conscious thought to manipulate physical states, is believed to be able to affect the energetic vibrations of the person receiving treatment.

Two levels of training, Level 1 and Level 2, are available. Level 1 focuses on addressing energetic imbalances while Level 2 is designed to teach practitioners how to send energy into injured areas of the body in order to facilitate a more rapid healing process.

What Happens in a Quantum-Touch Session?

Quantum-Touch is built around the needs of the client, so there’s no set formula for each session. Practitioners tend to focus on cultivating a relationship with the client first, as this relationship allows them to better access the client’s qi during treatment and also promotes client comfort. Sessions usually begin with a conversation.

Once the client and provider feel comfortable, the provider will move their hands just above the client’s body with a goal of tapping into the client’s “qi,” or life force. Practitioners believe allowing the client’s body to match the high energetic vibrations of the provider promotes the body’s ability to heal itself, potentially offering rapid—and even immediate—healing of pain as well as some level of recovery from acute and chronic health issues.

Some massage therapists use Quantum-Touch alongside traditional massage techniques. These techniques may increase the effectiveness of Quantum-Touch while offering a relaxing massage session.

Benefits of Quantum-Touch Massage Therapy

Because Quantum-Touch therapy works on the body’s energy, not the physical body, practitioners report wide-ranging results. Gordon reports using Quantum-Touch to alleviate pain, reduce liver enzyme levels, treat infections, cure scoliosis, improve eyesight, and even cure cancer.

Anecdotal evidence suggests many individuals find it a helpful and relaxing approach that improves both physical and mental health concerns, but more research may be necessary.

Quantum-Touch Precautions

Quantum-Touch therapy is considered a safe approach, even for those who have health concerns, since it works on the body’s energetic system and does not require any physical manipulation. Quantum-Touch requires no special positions, making it accessible to those who have limited mobility or find certain positions uncomfortable. Clients do not need to remove their clothing for a Quantum-Touch session.

Peer-reviewed research has not yet fully explored the effectiveness of Quantum-Touch massage therapy, so individuals may wish to look into available data themselves before pursuing this approach. Qualified practitioners are likely to be trained and certified in the approach.
